Classroom Bulletin Boards
A talking wall is a place where a community shares information.
This is a photo of a class bulletin board in our school.
This place shown in the picture is an ordinary classroom bulletin board and
the community is a group of students. The information is a balance
of the nitty-gritty details of events for that particular class mixed
with the philosophy and goals for that classroom and the school.
As you look at the photo think about the class bulletin boards in your school.
Almost every class bulletin board is different. They may include some
of the same items or types of things. But like classrooms, each bulletin
board has its own sort of personality. You will see that there is a great
variety of styles and "personalities" among these "talking walls."
Very often the "talking walls" reflect the personality and the values of
the community which uses them.
Questions to think
about:
1.How would the "talking wall"
used by a high school classroom be different from these?
2.What about the bulletin board
"talking walls" in an elementary classroom?
3.Why are they
different?
4.OTHER than language, how
might bulletin board "talking walls" be different in another
country?
5.Do you think that classrooms
in all countries have "talking walls?"
