Cape Elizabeth High School

Cape Elizabeth High School is a public four-year comprehensive high school of approximately 600 students. We received the honor of being the only high school in the State of Maine recognized as a 2004 Blue Ribbon School by the United States Department of Education. This award is based on our students' very high level of performance on State tests of reading and mathematics. We were also named to U.S. News and World Report's and Newsweek 's lists of top high schools for 2008. There are 63 professional staff members; 71 percent have advanced degrees. Cape Elizabeth High School is accredited by the New England Association of Schools & Colleges and by the State of Maine. The school complex was built in 1969, renovated in 2005-06. The average class size is 22 students. The high school offers college preparatory, vocational and special education programs for all students. There is a regional vocational technical center in Portland, study at the nearby university and technical college campus, work-study and independent study. Physical education facilities at the high school include a large gymnasium and a six-lane, 25-yard pool. Outdoors are tennis courts, baseball, softball and multi-purpose fields and a six-lane track surrounding a soccer field.

Arts: CEHS has an award-winning Wind Symphony, Symphonic
Band, 3 large Jazz Ensembles Athletics: Seventy percent of CEHS students participate in the athletic program; comprised of 36 teams, 23 of which are varsity. Activities include: Soccer, Cross Country, Basketball, Football, Swimming, Diving, Indoor Track, Nordic Skiing, Lacrosse, Golf, Tennis, Track, Field Hockey, Ice Hockey, Baseball and Softball. Over the past 15 years CEHS has won in excess of 50 State Championships. CEHS has also won in excess of 60 Western Maine Conference Championships. The library media center has more than 10,000 volumes, 100 periodicals and numerous audio-visual materials.
