September workshop eyes use of data in schools
The Cape Elizabeth School Board workshop, on September 26th,
7:00pm, in the High School Library, will include a presentation
about data: the types of data collected by educators, various
ways data informs instruction, and the plan for using data
in our system.
Sarah Simmonds and Shari Robinson, co-facilitators of Professional
Development and Curriculum Coordination, will discuss the kinds
of data being collected, the information provided by data,
and the goal of the Curriculum Committee (CIA) to use the data
to develop and enhance curriculum. Sarah will also include
an historical perspective in her presentation. Professional
development goals for the year include the creation of a system-wide
Data Team that will oversee the use of assessment results to
improve teaching and learning.
Dominic dePatsy, Director of Special Services, will discuss
the impact of data in the Special Services department. A new
database that breaks down data on disabilities, caseloads,
and Least Restrictive Environment is being used to collect
information to develop Individual Education Plans (IEPs).
Data from a variety of measurements, including the DRA, NWEA,
SAT,
PSAT,
Observation
Survey, and DIBELS, is greatly informing teachers about student
learning and helping to identify students with specific needs.
All School Board workshop meetings are open to the public.
Please plan to join us in the CEHS Library on Tuesday, September
26th, at 7:00 pm.
