Storm closure procedures for winter 2006-2007

November 15, 2006

Dear Parents/Guardians,

As we enjoy the last days of beautiful fall weather and begin to anticipate the winter season, it is time to think about school closing procedures. If it becomes necessary to cancel or delay the start of school due to inclement weather, the decision will be made by 6 a.m. "No school and delayed opening" announcements will be provided by the services listed at the bottom of this letter.

The process for assessing road conditions begins in the very early morning and involves a multitude of individuals. The final decision is based primarily on the advice received from the United States Weather Bureau and the Public Works Department regarding road conditions. It is the obligation of the Public Works Department to plow the streets first to enable access by fire and police. After the streets are plowed, the parking lots of the schools and other public buildings are cleared.

If, due to the timing of a winter storm, a delayed opening is instituted, it will usually be a 2-hour delay with no morning kindergarten session. The setting of a consistent time should help parents make alternate child care plans. As always, our primary concern when school is either cancelled or delayed is for the safety and well being of the students.

"No school" and "delayed opening" announcements will be provided on:
