Cape Elizabeth High School earns second highest score in state on Maine High School Assessment Test

It was recently reported that Cape Elizabeth High School ranked second in the state in combined scores earned by its juniors on the Maine High School Assessment tests administered in the spring of 2008. Students at the Maine School of Science and Math, which is a quasi-private institution, earned top honors with a combined score of 4642, as compared to Cape Elizabeth High School’s score of 4610. These results indicate that the majority of Cape’s students met or exceeded the state’s proficiency standards in the four subject areas in which students were tested.

High School Principal, Jeff Shedd shared his perspective on the results. “We are quite pleased and proud of the achievements of our students on these exams.  The results are a true testament to the high quality of instruction which our students receive from a talented teaching staff.  We here in Cape Elizabeth, are blessed with diligent and academically strong students and supportive families.  We view our rank as the top-performing public school in Maine as both terrific feedback and incentive to continuously support our students and improve on the teaching and learning which takes place here.”

The Maine High School Assessment is administered by the Maine DOE and designed to test the proficiency of high school juniors in math, reading, writing and science.   Other area schools reporting scores among the top 20 in the state include: Yarmouth (4608); Falmouth ( 4597); Greely ( 4595); Scarborough ( 4584); Kennebunk (4574).
