SCHOOL BUDGET INTERESTED PARTIES UPDATE - April 9, 2010

The School Board continues to review the budget proposal and identify adjustments for consideration in a final budget for the school year beginning July 1, 2010. The Board will meet to finalize the budget on April 13 at Town Hall starting at 7PM. The Board will allow time for public comments at the beginning of the meeting before final deliberations and its vote on the budget. Once finalized, the budget will be sent to the Town Council for consideration.

Update on the High School theatre proposal:
The School Board is currently exploring the restoration of the proposed reduction of 0.1 FTE in the amount of $7,433 to the budget.

Update on High School Mock Trial Stipend:
The High School budget has been adjusted to ensure that there are stipend dollars available for the HS mock trial team if the Maine Bar Association funding for the competition is restored.

Update on Staffing Needs:
As a result of state mandates, a Pond Cove guidance counselor has been added to the budget. The Pond Cove Librarian position has been tentatively restored to a full time position consistent with current staffing. At the High School level, the School Board is exploring the restoration of the Achievement Center teacher along with restoration of proposed reductions in math, and science teacher time. The proposed addition of a half-time High School Executive Skills teacher has been tentatively identified for a reduction.

Update on High School Secretarial Positions:
Both secretarial positions (health and attendance) that were proposed as reductions are being reviewed for restoration to the budget.

High School Parking Fees:
The School Board is considering an increase in annual high school parking fees for students from $25 to $50.

Other:
