News from the Superintendent's Office
Lockdown drill scheduled at all three Cape schools March 24, 2010

March 19, 2010

Dear Cape Elizabeth Parents/Guardians,

Cape Elizabeth Schools have always worked hard to maintain a balanced, common sense approach to school safety and security. In the aftermath of recent events at both Lyman Moore Junior High and Portland High School, the Cape Elizabeth Safety Committee has decided that a lockdown practice procedure will occur in all 3 schools on Wednesday, March 24th with students present. Working in conjunction with the CEPD & CEFD the lockdown procedures will occur at the following times:

  • Pond Cove—8:45 a.m.
  • CEHS - 9:55 a.m.
  • CEMS - 1:15 p.m.

We ask you to please support us in our attempt to re-familiarize our staff and students with this important procedure and allow the first responders to practice new strategies and debrief their effectiveness. The drill will take approximately 30-35 minutes to conduct. There should be little, if any, disruption to class during this drill. We regret the minimal interruption in our daily work with students but hope that you share our philosophy that we must avoid complacency and continue our ongoing practice of staying alert at all times.
