Principal's Notes: Week of 13 January 2020
Dear Pond Cove Families,
This morning students had the opportunity to attend our second Peaceful Pond Cove assembly of the school year. Grades 3-4 presentation was at 9:00am and the K-2 at 9:40am. The intent was for the assembly to inspire students to use the new year as an opportunity to create goals for themselves and to support each other in making respectful, responsible, and safe choices both in and outside of school. As a follow-up to the assembly, each classroom is invited to compose a whole-class resolution, which will be posted in the main lobby soon. Please take a moment to ask your child about this experience.
Thank you for consistently using our new online student dismissal change system through PowerSchool. Please remember to submit any dismissal changes by the 10:00am deadline each day. If you happen to miss the deadline, please call or email us. If you notify us by email, please also copy your child's teacher. It is important for you to inform us of early dismissals in advance as well. Early dismissals should also be submitted in powerschool by 10:00am.
We truly appreciate you teaming with us as we provide a safe, productive, and enjoyable elementary school experience for your child/children. The support we receive from parents and guardians contributes greatly to the success of our students. We couldn't do it without you.
Classroom Highlight - Mrs. Whitaker's Grade 4 Class
Last week Mrs. Whitaker's amazing fourth graders used our Mystery Science curriculum to explore the essential question, "How have landscapes changed over time?"
After watching a brief video about a volcano that erupted in a farmer's field in Mexico in 1943, the mystery began with the question, "Do you think a volcano could pop up in your backyard? Why or why not?"
As part of their study, students shared their own thinking about volcanoes, analyzed world maps showing volcanic activity, and charted their thinking as they looked for predictable patterns in the location of volcanoes. Students learned about The Ring of Fire and saw examples of just how drastically a volcanic eruption can change the landscape.
Great job, Mrs. Whitaker's class. I know you all had fun working together to solve this mystery!
