Cape Elizabeth School Building Advisory Committee

The School Building Advisory Committee (SBAC) is a joint ad hoc advisory committee of the Cape Elizabeth School Board and the Town Council. The SBAC was established in March 2023 with a mission to create a strategic, cost-effective plan to address the school building needs of Cape Elizabeth following the rejection of a $116 million school bond referendum in November 2022. The SBAC's work is focused on thorough assessment, comprehensive community outreach, and the development of a plan that serves the needs of students, educators, families, and the community.

Updates from SBAC Meeting - December, 2023

As part of the December 7 meeting of the School Building Advisory Committee (SBAC), Harriman Architect Lisa Sawin reviewed information that was presented at the November 30 community forum, along with a framework for developing the initial set of options to address Cape Elizabeth’s school facilities and educational needs.

Prior to sharing the framework, details were presented under the following categories:

  • Existing facility deficiencies

  • Existing facility inefficiencies

  • Programmatic needs and priorities

Sawin also presented a draft framework for the initial options for addressing school facilities needs. Incorporating input from the community at a forum to be held on February 1, 2024, and in discussions throughout the winter and spring, the SBAC will work to refine and narrow the options.
