Multilingual Learner (ML)
Emilee Conroe
Emilee received her B.A. in both English and Anthropology from The University of Vermont, and received my Masters in Education from The University of Missouri - St. Louis. She also holds a Certificate in TESOL/TEFL from St. Michael’s College in Colchester, Vermont.
She has spent the past several years working with students of diverse backgrounds to build their confidence and proficiency within the English language. Before coming to Maine, she taught 9th-10th grade English Language Arts, as well as co-taught a 9th-12th grade English Language Development Workshop to multilingual learners in Kansas City, Missouri. While at Cape Elizabeth Schools, she has served as a district-wide multilingual learner teacher, predominantly working with Kindergarten-4th and 9th-12th grade students.
As an educator, she is committed to providing instruction that is relevant to student needs, interactive and engaging, and responsive to differentiated learning styles. She deeply values fostering positive and meaningful relationships with students, and actively encourage students to utilize their full linguistic repertoires as they learn and grow.
When not teaching, you can find her baking, gardening, reading, creatively writing, and traveling.
Jessica Miller
Jessica Miller has taught multilingual learners for the past 16 years, both in Massachusetts and Maine. She is a language learner herself and spent time studying Spanish and living abroad, immersed in a new language and culture. Jessica brings passion for teaching and dedication to students. She lives in Cape Elizabeth with her husband and two sons.
Extended Learning Opportunities (ELO) & Student Pathways
Lauren Tarantino -
Lauren has been a public school educator for seventeen years. She has a BA in English from the University of Pennsylvania and a Masters in Education from Pace University. Prior to teaching in Cape Elizabeth, she taught in NYC public schools. After more than a decade as a member of the English department at CEHS, Lauren transitioned to running the ELO program at the high school, and she is passionate about helping students find and cultivate their intrinsic motivation to learn. In addition to working in schools, Lauren has worked at a law firm, a Wyoming dude ranch, and various farms across South America.
Sarah Plummer
As the District’s Student Pathways Coordinator, Sarah coordinates efforts to integrate multiple learning pathways and career connected education across CESD. Sarah moved into this role in 2023 after serving as CEHS’s Extended Learning Opportunities Coordinator for two years. Prior to her work at CESD, Sarah coordinated regional environmental education programs for 17 years in the Greater Portland and Lake Region areas. This work included curriculum development, coordination with K-12 teachers and administration at dozens of schools, large scale event facilitation, and community partner collaboration. Her work earned her an Excellence in Environmental Programs Award from the Maine Environmental Education Association in 2017 as well the General Manager’s Award at the Portland Water District in 2020. Sarah holds a BA in Environmental Science and Policy, with a minor in Political Science, from the University of Southern Maine, and is passionate about connecting students to meaningful relationships, learning, and skills. Originally from Rhode Island, Sarah spent time in Colorado before moving to Maine, where she now lives in Gorham with her two teenagers and crazy dog. An avid outdoor enthusiast, Sarah enjoys adventures such as paddleboarding, running, skiing, and mountain biking.
Gifted & Talented/ELA/Humanities
Tami Johnsen -
Tami Johnsen moved to the lovely state of Maine in June of 2023. She is an avid hiker and backpacker. She also loves kayaking, and Maine is definitely the place to enjoy the water. She absolutely LOVES the outdoors!
Her teaching experience spans multiple grades and a variety of subjects over the course of 20 years. She is excitedly continuing her journey in Cape as the Extended Learning Strategist Pond Cove.
